Guide to Community Preventive Services
The Community Guide is being developed by the Task Force on Community Preventive Services, an independent, non-federal Task Force appointed by the Director of CDC. The Task Force's membership is multi-disciplinary, and includes perspectives representative of state and local health departments, managed care, academia, behavioral and social sciences, communications sciences, mental health, epidemiology, quantitative policy analysis, decision and cost-effectiveness analysis, information systems, primary care, and management and policy. The Community Guide is being developed to provide leadership in the evaluation of community, population, and healthcare system strategies, and to address a variety of public health and health promotion topics such as physical activity.
According to the Web site, "Effective use of the Community Guide starts with being aware of it and understanding how it can be used in the context of evidence-based public health." To that end, they have provided three powerpoint presentations, which "provide a step by step overview of the field of EBPH, the nuts and bolts of systematic reviews, and how to apply evidence based resources such as the Community Guide to public health practice."
